GENERAL ADMISSION & FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

ADMISSION INQUIRIES AND APPLICATION

Those seeking the assistance of Christian Science nurses from one of our nursing programs, and fully relying on Christian Science for healing, are welcome to apply to Peace Haven for admission.

Peace Haven’s Admissions Committee considers each application for admission. For questions or to start the process call Cathy Farrell, Director of Christian Science Nursing, at 314.965.3833 or Cathy@PeaceHavenAssociation.org. This telephone interview will help us determine whether we can best help through inpatient admission, our Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service, or through outpatient care. Each request is considered on an individual basis, according to the request and need, as well as availability for admission. The Director of Christian Science Nursing will make a recommendation to the Admissions Committee based on the initial interview. If accepted, the Admissions Committee will determine your level of care within 48 hours.

Admission requirements include that the individual is:

  • Fully relying on Christian Science for healing

  • Working daily with a Christian Science Journal-listed practitioner

  • Free from the use of medication, both over-the-counter and prescribed

The Christian Science Nurse Scope of Services by The Mother Church (Click Here to View) provides a helpful understanding of what Christian Science nursing includes and does not include. Upon admission, patients receive a copy of this letter to read and sign.

ADMISSION PROCESS

If accepted for admission, you will be required to provide the following documents on or before your arrival at Peace Haven:

  • Photo Identification and Social Security Card

  • Health Insurance cards and policies, if you have health insurance

  • Medicare card, if you have Medicare

If you have the following documents, you will be required to provide Peace Haven with a copy of them. We can photocopy them upon your arrival.

  • Financial Power of Attorney

  • Health Care Power of Attorney

  • Advance Directive (Healthcare Directive)

When you arrive at Peace Haven, you will be greeted by Christian Science nurses who will get you settled in your room.  A Christian Science nurse will work with you and/or your family member/representative to read and complete required admission paperwork.

INSURANCE

If you have health insurance (other than Medicare) or a Medicare Supplemental policy, please be sure to provide us with a copy of your insurance card and your policy’s explanation of covered benefits. This information is very helpful when determining whether you have coverage for the services you will be receiving at Peace Haven. In some cases, you must notify your insurance company that you are at Peace Haven before we can file a claim. We can assist you in determining whether this stipulation applies to you.

MEDICARE

In order for Medicare to pay for your care, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid Identification and Medicare card

  • Have a valid “Election for Medicare Benefits in Religious Nonmedical Health Care Institutions” form (Peace Haven will supply this form upon admission)

  • Require the care or supervision of a fully trained, Journal-listed Christian Science nurse

If you have Original Medicare Part A, we will be able to bill Medicare directly on your behalf. You will be responsible for paying the deductible amount, as well as coinsurance amounts should your Medicare-covered stay extend past 60 days. (Many health insurance plans will cover the deductible and coinsurance amounts.)

If you have chosen to receive your Medicare benefits through a Medicare Advantage Plan, we will need to call the insurance company for preauthorization upon your admittance. While your right to receive RNHCI care remains valid, often these health organizations are not familiar with RNHCI care and find it difficult to evaluate care or process claims from RNHCIs. If your stay is not authorized by the Advantage Plan, we will continue to educate them. Occasionally, it is necessary to go through an appeal process before they will pay the claim.

BILLING

Monthly invoices are sent by the 10th of the following month and are due upon receipt. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

If there is a need for financial assistance, you may apply to Peace Haven and/or The National Fund for Christian Science Nursing (NFCSN) at NFCSN.org.

Financial Assistance from Peace Haven is granted based on a confidential application submitted by the patient. To apply for financial assistance from Peace Haven, you may request an application upon admission acceptance, or at any time during your stay. Applications should be submitted to the Director of Operations where it is considered anonymously by the Finance Committee, who then makes a recommendation to the Board for final approval.

Each application is an opportunity for the patient and Peace Haven to acknowledge and affirm the true source of supply as our Father-Mother God.
